Question What qualities does it take for you to stick to an anime series?

Like the title says, what does it take for you to stick with an anime through out the entire series? What hooks you to keep watching it?

For me, it has to be enjoyable to watch. Usually I can tell if I'm going to like it by at least the second episode. Sometimes the first episode hooks me. Like right now I started watching Nisekoi. By the time the first episode was finished, I was ready to watch more of it. It had me hooked with the overall characters and plot line.

So what does it take to hook you all?

Good art, good plot and character development. It must not be entirely comedy, some laughs here and there are fine but not over done. Nothing is perfect, but stupid elements must not persist throughout the entire anime, they gotta end or I will surely drop it.

It just has to maintain my interest over time.

Though I am less apt to watch it the more people talk about it and misinterpret the show (probably why I'm so disinterested with Hetalia that I didn't finish it).

It also has to be consistent with the characters well written, or at least don't flip 180s altogether for the sake of saving the plot (I don't always like the magic-fix ending)

Art, action, story and interest for me.

If a lot of people talk about an anime I may watch it but for me to continue it I need that anime to qualify for one of those qualities.

Art, story, character development and overall enjoy and entertainment value keeps me going.

Sometimes, I can just watch a series just for completion.

I need a good solid story, good character development, a good dynamic between characters, some action and as little comedy as possible, I prefer more serious type of Anime. Some humor is great but not the straight out dumb and overly silly stuff you see in some Anime. If I want something silly as hell then I watch Shin-Chan.

A good start, with immediately likable and/or appealing characters leading into a story with a lot of momentum and fresh and clear narrative to keep me hooked. Also a clear direction and premise from the first 3 episodes. Exposition is useful, but hardly critical when usually a brief intro is required.

Turn offs include prolonged interludes with aimless narrative (nothing wrong with a good diversion as long as it's a good story in itself), too much tragedy (I try to avoid sad things in real life so why look for it in anime) and cliff hangers (finish the story instead of glossing over or simply dropping off. Leaving with a question is fine, but only if it comes after the tale). Equally a loose thread is very distracting if left for too long.

For me, it must have memorable moments and a diversity of character types.
