normally a Good anime to start with is one with a good story, Princess Monoke, Spirited Away, Howl's Moving Castle, Kiki's Delivery Service, or if they are into action, then something like Arika, Spriggan, or even Ninja Scrolls, can't really go wrong with classics or those by Studio Gheble

honestly Trigun, because all the characters are pretty fun but the series has darkness to it, it kind of transends the sub genre,.

I'd say,Naruto because we can't go and throw something like Elfen Lied in their face straight away. Not unless you wanna traumatize them. Then slowly move them up to something sadder like Spirited Away or Death Note and keep going.

I would reccomend Dragon Ball Z first to get them viewing animae material. Afterwards I would try to introduce them into a little more serious animae such as Fullmetal Alchimeist then Fullmetal Alchiemeist Brotherhood. then into less action more story type animae like xxxholic and Mushi-shi.

Ew. Dragonball Z. I used to watch Dragonball when I was like... 3. lmao.

Well, It'd depend on the person, but I suppose if I'm going for someone who loves really random, funny things then it's have to be Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei or Ouran High School Host Club.
If it's someone more like my father, who loves crime dramas and puzzle solving, I'd say something like Death Note.
As for others, I'd want to give them something with a balance between story and action - for which I would say Hakuouki.
For those who are fans of anything gaylove related - such as manga - i'd say Junjou Romantica. It has a nice balance between the gayness and real story. It's not meaningless action and feelings are made prominent throughout.

Well... most people (that I know) have a preconcieved notion that anime is all bloody and violent or childish and sparkly. So I'd either give them Spirited Away, Howl's Moving Castle, Ouran High School Host Club, or something else that is either funny or has a great story (or both)

i think i would recommend Death Note as it has a powerful plot and you don't need to have an anime/Japanese background to understand what's going on...

Actually it depends on the person. It depends on what kind of genre they like to watch.
