Otaku is katakana now huh? That's kinda weird, I mean anime I knew but then again anime is pretty much an abbreviation of sorts of animation kinda like テレビ for television or トイレ for toilet (although I think that actually means something more akin to a general "bathroom") so that kinda makes sense. Otaku sounds full on Japanese.....buuuut I guess it is a good way to distinguish that from the western interperetation of it. Although I've always felt the meaning was pretty much the same, just that westerners don't quite get that there's a negative connotation to it.

It kind of does, but Otaku in Japan is leveled at social recluses who obsess to the point of forgoing society (think hoarder of anime). In the west we take expression of ones fascination as a norm, even to the point of accepting quirks and mannerisms (train spotting is a norm). The west tend to be more accepting of insular natures (The whole me, me, me mind set), where as in Japan a greater emphasis on social interaction and public image is the norm. As such a fascination of something is alright in conversation and passing or in isolation amongst a group, but on the whole it is purely private and not encouraged as a lifestyle or as the focus of ones being. Japan prefers a more mannerly, less ostentatious and loud approach to socializing and prefer a plainer approach as well as furtherment of yourself in a business with you applying yourself instead of all take and no give.

Otaku is the insult leveled at the insular and seen as a slight to ones social abilities. It carries connotations that someone is socially inept, has no manners or grace, may be of no use or a wastrel.

I found this article that may be useful.

Arabic: أنا أوتاكو
Danish: Jeg er en Otaku
Swedish: Jag r en Otaku
German: Ich bin ein Otaku
Spanish: Soy un Otaku
French: Je suis un Otaku

Most of them I am still learning, and the rest I'm confident in them.

how do you infer - say I, you, he, she, we? by tone or rhythm of voice?

@Ascended - we modify the verb, different suffix for each person (I, you...) and time (present, past...). And thars hard to get used to, more detailed and tedious than german language.

But the good tip to be able to say any slovak word without any knowledge of language is to forget any pronunciation. 'a' is always 'a', 'o' is always 'o' and so on.
