We might never know. The thing is we dont have records before mesopotanian times...none whatsoever because they havent learned to write yet and there is only so much we can derive from pictorial drawings.Scientist and archaeologists cant even agree which civilization was the very first..its either between sumer in mesopotania or the egyptians or the Indians and even China. The topic of the "cradle of civilization" is a much debatated one.

The mesopotanian and egyptians myths might be the first we have on record but i am talking way before that...The mesopotanian and egyptians did popularize polytheism and their Gods were similiar with a similiar creation myth.We might never know the original creation myth.

I understand.
The mythology was able to transform and immortalize by means the movies, comics and manga. Today, the cultures are increasingly "full" of
mythology mixed, so to say. It's interesting like the artists play it in their stories.

I think thats a different definition of mythology to the kind you were originally talking about, which was comparative religion

But . . . as far as the mythology goes, and where religion really begins?

The Greeks built legends based on their religion, the Norse also and the Japanese . . . . so anyway, how can we determine what is imaginary than real? - Maybe, the two things are complement in a way.

Well people create narratives to explain things, and in that sense myths are universal even in secular societies... think of moral teachings of history in school that whitewash Columbus or demonise one side of World War 2. Or of pseudoscientific ideologies like Marxism which rationalise history and human behaviours but whose content is explicitly related to religious narrative.

Paganism was more rational because the stories related to observable facts of nature including the human self... like Aleister Crowley said, "Paganism is wholesome because it respects the facts of life". Over time human shifted from the practicality of functionalism through ideologies like Platonism and Confucianism that confuse what ought with what is, and on through Christianity and into the irrational "rationalism" of ideas like Marxism.

I think Norse mythology is a particularly good example of the cross contamination of mythologies. Norse mythology was a story teller's religion. The orator would hear a story they liked and then attribute the actions of the story to different deities of their own. Hence it would not be uncommon to hear a Roman myth in Norse mythology if it was well liked.

How do you know they didnt share a common Indo-European origin? But it has been argued convincingly that Norse mythology does show traits of Iranian dualism in its worldview.

I am not suggesting they didn't share a common origin, I am suggesting that when presented with a new story that they liked, Norse storytellers would actively work them into their mythology.

Which relates to the reason why the Bible is relevant to folklore studies.

According to Alan Dundes, "I hope to show that Gaster was mistaken, because I intend to demonstrate that the Bible is indeed folklore. And, I might add, it is not a question of "making" the bible folklore; it is folklore. Once the nature of bona fide folklore is made clear, it will become obvious that the Bible clearly manifests the distinctive criteria of folklore: namely, multimple existence and variation."
