Red face Taboos and controversy in anime

Lets discuss the taboos and controversy in animes.

How do you all feel about these Taboos in animes?
What do you actually consider to be controversial?
How far do you feel is too far to take an anime?
Is it a result of cultural differences?
What do you think are the most controversial anime?

Some general examples:
Relationships built on rape.
Rape displayed as harmless or even normal and common.
Beating women being seen as normal.
people wetting themselves and loosing control of their bladders.
Racism or ethnic stereotyping.

Some specific examples:
Eflen lied when the father was raping and molesting his own daughter.
Vampire knight where brother and sister fell in love and had an inessential relationship.
Dragonball Z where voyeurism, and reading pornography in the presents of minors is common place.

Keep in mind we're not discussing hentai here.

Well I've never really watched any anime like that, but I guess Dorokoro(sp?)-Chan and Akane Iro Ni Somaru Saka. I don't really mind the whole brother and sister thing, I ignore it or not even watch the anime and the whole rape thing is kinda freaky...

Well, there's a lot of stereotyping in Hetalia, but my friend talks to the creator on Facebook a lot, and it's really obvious that it's all in good fun. I don't think there's a single character in the series that doesn't have their downsides; it makes fun of everybody (though Korea was not amused).
And I don't watch much of...that kind of anime, just because, I don't know, I go out seeking Zombies and stuff.

When I started to get interested in animes there were a lot of things I had to get used to and that was that things that are considered taboo in many countries were so openly discussed or displayed in animes. I wasn't used to it and it was hard to get my head around it. So I stopped watching animes because of that a couple of times.

For me a taboo alone was the fact that every character looked and sounded like a kid, even when they were considered as adults. that was one thing I had to get over. I couldn't in the beginning so I watched only animes that had characters that truly looked like adults. But as time went by and I learned more about the Japanese culture and animes, I started to become more accepting and saw characters for what they are. Now I just enjoy animes as a whole.

However, there are a couple of taboo subject that I consider a 'no no' regardless. For example I am against rape in any way, shape or form. That also goes for lolicon, shotacon.

Everything else I may not approve, but condone it. Well, that's for me, hehehe.

I've seen so many anime shows that portrays a lot of controversies especially the yaoi and yuri genre...But they are seen straight as normal..I've watched Elfen Lied and saw a lot of bloody scenes and especially the raping scene..I've seen Vampire Knight, since in royalty marrying a sibling (so called incest) is like a tradition to them..
In Dragon Ball, well, sex scenes of them roam everywhere..
I think some notable controversial anime for me is Death Note and School Days..I don't know, it is just me..

I've seen a couple of tabooish type of anime but I come across manga with taboo things more often.

"I love my little sister" is an example of an incestuous anime. That I believe was a manga then turned into an OVA. The title says it all.

I admit I squirmed watching it. Since it did conflict my morals. But the story in itself is sad and a bit of a reality call. I mean to say is, that there are people in their situation and can't openly express their love. As for incest, I'm very sketchy on it if I support it IRL. Now would I ever fall in love with my siblings? Two words: HELL NO.

That OVA specifically focused on their taboo love.

But there are anime that are mainstream and well-liked with tidbits of taboo reeking from them.

Angel Sanctuary
Shakugon No Shana
Yuri/Yaoi.

When I refer to yuri and yaoi. Generall same sex relationships are considered taboo. I know some of you might disagree. But it is considered taboo..

Overall, it's alright if it stays in that form of media... but if it was accepted IRL... I don't know what else can happen...

Even seemingly inocent animes like dragon ball can have controvertial images.
For example bulma wetting herself in fear, or in GT a perv pedo undressing pan and dressing her like a doll.
