You answered the question yourself.

True Love never hurts.

It's the losing of it, by whatever means, that hurts.

Wow!!! Have you never suffered from a broken heart??

Like many people, I have loved and I have lost, Friends and family die, does this not hurt?

If we never love ... then love cannot hurt us, but to loose someone we truly love is devastating!

True Love, an active process, never hurts. It's the ending, the termination of that process, that leaves us all bereft, and needy. That is a clear definition of a cause of pain and suffering.

I know this because, I have lost True Love. While it was in-place and active, all was right with the World. The whole World collapsed, and depression lasted for years afterward. I learned that True Love is rare, and causes those enormous, irreconcilable; feelings of pain and loss.

We always feel the loss of rare things, more than the loss of something more common, like that burritto you ate fer lunch.

The True Love, found with that special one, can never be replaced. There is only the consolation prize, of another variety of Love. We always that can stand under our comparison of what we lost. Some get lucky.

I did not....
I have empathy with you, but I am somewhat confused. Yes true love is not static but an ongoing process, but on the other hand you seem to maintain the position that true love does not hurt

This seems like a contradiction, for me true love and the loss of a loved one hurts like hell, but maybe the discussion is drifting into philosophical semantics and has just gone over my simple little brain ... maybe I drink too much wine as a means to overcome and compensate the losses .... and therefor such consumption of said mind numbing lethal substances leads me to fail to comprehend the argument???

Did I just say all that???? LOL

I think he means that true love is only true when followed by some actions that are classified as true.
However, he believes that nothing is quiet and permanent, so there has been a breach of these actions that cause us pain. But it was not true love that caused, but other actions that are not classified as true love.
Soon, the pain is not stemmed true love, therefore, true love does not hurt. What hurts is the disappointment and the loss of the actions of joy and complicity that true love used to offer.
Those actions that are not classified as true, that cause us pain.

I think jealousy plays a large part in the grieving process. Nothing cuts deeper than to see your former partner being fondled by a new lover ... OMG ... this is suicide territory.

At a bar one night I saw my ex girlfriend being kissed and cuddled by my someone I thought was my best friend ... that hurt! And she was wearing a sexy little dress I brought for her ... ouch!!!

And, she was the mother of my infant son. I sued for custody of my son and won!
