Default Planning To Cosplay... Tips, Please...? ^^U

I'm planning on cosplaying as Miranda Lotto, from D. Gray Man... And I could use some tips and feedback. ^^U
Here Is Miranda (She Normally Has Brown Hair Although It Looks Black, Here):

Here I am, Though It Isn't My Best Photo...

... Will I make a terrible cosplayer...? ^^U I'm aware that I'll need to make my skin a shade or two paler, and perhaps curl my hair a bit more... Yet what else...? ^^U

Well, I received some great advice from Spork Faerie for this future cosplay:

Quote:
First off: Nobody makes a terrible cosplayer *hug*, it all depends on how much effort you put into pulling the whole cosplay together. Level of quality is very easy to spot.

You will be using your own hair instead of a wig? I noticed that the character has bangs, will you be getting your hair cut into bangs as well to match the character a bit? As for the curly-ness of your hair, I think it is perfect ^_^ The character does seem to have a bit more volume in the crown of the head though, so you may want to do a bit with that, like bumping up the hair a bit with clips underneath.

I wouldn't suggest trying to make your skin look a bit paler. There really isn't a good way to make yourself look paler and natural at the same time. Your skin looks natural with your hair color, so it shouldn't be a problem. I would suggest putting on a little make-up though, like a bit of eyeliner and mascara to make your eyes pop.

I hope this helps ^_^
Other than what she advised, is there anything you would recommend...? ^^U

It isn't just the costume that matters, facial expression and body language are also important.

mm.. i think the costumes matters bcoz it can also boost ur
confidence while cosplaying ur character.. you dont have to
spend a lot to have a good costume.. u can use cost-effective
materials.. there are a lot of alternatives.. and the WIG~~! it
matters a lot.. some cosplayers just put the wig w/o making any
effort to make it look good.. i mean.. make sure you cut it to
the style of the character ur imitating.. and brush it -.- hair
matters a lot.. im serious.. and also make sure that you know
how ur character behaves and speaks.. and practice it in front
of a mirror..

I've been told that i act like the character on a daily basis... XD I doubt being in character will be a problem, yet I understand your point. ^^ I'm definitely going to curl my hair more, so it seems more realistic... And I found the costume for a great price, with lots of detailing. ^^ Thank you for your advice. I'd better practice... ^^U

Piathe's advice is very good and its true that some people think cos they bought a wig they will look alright. But for the cosplay to work efficiently it needs every part of the experience to be done well.

The wig being shaped and brushed is essential. The costume having the little details that make it special is important.Being in character makes all the difference and definitely adds to the fun.
Also one aspect people often dont do or forget is the shoes. But this can make the difference between an average cosplay and a winner.

You dont have to have a wig, I was just meaning if its part of the character to have pink hair , well it kinda makes sense to wear a wig.

I cosplayed Saber a couple of times. She is from Fate Stay Night if you dont know her. I also cosplayed Yukki from Vampire Knight a while ago now.

I think if your hair is naturally like your character , well you dont have to worry and it will be less money to spend.
Its about having fun more than spending a lot of money isnt it?

Yeah, for some reason the links wouldn't work for me but I looked up the character design and I think it should be relatively simple. You can probably pull off using your own hair. Personally, I always prefer natural hair to a wig.

If the character has any quirks and odd/distinctive facial expressions, try them out in a bathroom mirror.

I think the nylonwigs can be a bit much sometimes. Of course if your character has a natural hair colour then it is great to use your own hair. But obviously if its a totally different hairstyle you might need a wig to work on it.

For example if you are playing a saiyan warrior from DBZ you are going to need a very different look to if you are playing Kaname from Vampire Knight.
