I think something should at least be at its 20 year mark before being called classic. I also don't consider Big O old, but then again what do I know.

I'm going to side with 80's guy on this. The Big O is still relatively new, but it is on the old side of new. At the minute I'd stick with the notion that anything pre-millenium being classic by default, but in saying that...

The notion of classic is subjective as hell as a lot goes down to personal taste. In saying that I'd at least consider The Big O a future classic due to it's art style and interesting story. It is far from a paragon, but given it's age and off beat style that is reminiscent of Tetsunji it stands out from it's contempories in many good ways.

On a final point. Classic as a term is one often applied by default to a period of history an item goes through (ususally25 to 50 years old) so anyhing old has a classic period even if it isn't considered a classic by many (The Austin alegro is a classic car, but...). After that it will become vintage (50-100 years old), then finally antique (100 years and over). Having said that, the specific time periods things must pass to gain a status are subjective enough that some would consider some technological things classic after only 10 years due to the less durable and more obsolescent nature of things.

Thank you guys for your responses, I went ahead and decided to place big o in my newest video as a recent/modern anime. The video basically is me suggesting 3 anime's with a Christmas eps, but each are categorized similar to the 3 ghosts from a Christmas carol.

You guys, plus a couple others, nudged me towards including big o in the video and I'm very happy I did it.

If you'd like to check it out, click here:

I'm sure ppl won't think its my best work, but hey, its the holidays, am i right? Gotta throw in that Christmas cheer!

To list a few personal classics i'd go for

Riding Bean
Gunsmith Cats
Bubblegum Crisis OVA (including Bubblegum Crash film)
Cowboy Bebop
Dominion Tank Police (including New Dominion Tank Police)
Akira
Neon Genesis Evangelion TV series (including Death + Rebirth and End of Evangelion films)
You're Under Arrest Series 1
Castle of Cagliostro
Ninja Scroll Movie

There are plenty more, but that list would be too big for this post.

As for some future classics

Deadman Wonderland
Only When They Cry
Redline
Durarara
Black Lagoon

Nice choices in anime cud. I'm not gonna lie, I wasn't expecting anyone here to even mention gunsmith cats or bubblegum crisis.

Btw, if you've been hankering for a video on anime and the 90s, I've recently uploaded a video on my channel about such a subject.

As time will go by, I'll add more and more episodes to this series.

Also, if your worried about the personal angle I take in the video, don't worry, it'll probably be just this one while the others are more historical in essence, rather than self imposed nostalgia. This is just my way of trying to initially connect with the audience.

Hope ya like it

Watched the vid. i'm impressed. Watched a few of your earlier ones and you seem to be relaxing into things a bit more, always a good thing.

Nothing wrong with nostalgia (IMO there aren't enough nostalgic reviews or introspections to give viewers an idea of where anime came from and the glut of great titles available). Most channels seem to be purely anime of the day and recent releases. Again, no bad thing, but a lot of significant names are left on the shelf or purely for forum discussion. It's great to have new blood in forums with a lust for knowledge, but we only represent an incredibly small fraction of the entire anime autience. Youtube represents a larger gathering than us so IMO it may be worth regular retrospectives if only to highlight the history and what may be missing from a health anime diet.

There is also nothing wrong with some personal history about your adventures in anime. People warm to open people more easily than a robot spewing one review after another. Best idea is take your time, keep it consistant and be yourself. You are talking to a human audience with their own views and opinions so they will always draw their own conclusions regardless of how acccurate you are. All you can do is tell the truth when you know the truth and express opinion based on what you know or take from an experience.

I look forward to your next vid to see what you do. Keep up the good work.

Finally, if you don't mind a few suggestions, both for the channel and your research here are some anime you might find enjoyable to review and reference material to support your work

Anime

Redline (basic but very enjoyable)
Cowboy Bebop (you will hear that name so often in anime circles)
Excel Saga including its spin off Puni Puni Poemy (There has been nothing like them before or since to my knowledge. If you want a challenge give these a go).
Dominion Tank Police and New Dominion Tank Police (Anarchic comedy that has gain much cult following)
Deadman Wonderland (Very Macabre, but oddly compelling. Not too scary and a series that deserves a second series, inspite of it's reception in Japan).

Referencial Books

The Anime Encyclopedia. It isn't cheap, but it is handy and a more ready source of info on a lot of anime so far, especially the big anime. The authors Helen Mcarthy and Jonathan Clements are also renowned for their works in anime journalism and literature. Feel free to check them out.
http://www.amazon.com/Anime-Encyclop...e+encyclopedia

P.s Just to say that I'm a bit bias to older anime as you'll see here

https://animeforum.org.uk/showthread.php?t=30680

I have watched newer anime, but like watching an old Michael Caine film and then its remake, you either get nothing new or risk a jarring mess with new and inconsequential material (although Get Carter with Stallone was alright). Only occassionally do you get something worth the time. There are a few new anime I like (Redline and Deadman Wonderland being the most appealing so far), but the originals I find more appealing, but that's just me

wow cud, thx. I don't normally get positive feedback in this much detail. Its always nice to see it when it happens. It's stuff like this that keeps me focused on making more videos for the channel.

I'll take what you said into account.
